Responsibilities
The employee in this position will be part of Telecommunication HQ Device technology group. This role will be responsible for designing requirements and test plans for Telecommunication global devices to support Telecommunication global roaming strategies. Ever evolving technologies like LTE, VoLTE, VoWiFi, offer interesting challenges in a fast paced environment. The engineer will be responsible to formulate device requirements and to develop and verify the necessary test plans to assure device compliance. The selected candidate will also be responsible for tracking new developments in relevant standard bodies (3GPP, GSMA) and for working closely with device vendors and internal organizations to ensure that Telecommunication aligns with the industry and also contributes to the development of new technologies. This position is the SME for all device issues regarding roaming and provides technical support to other teams in the Telecommunication organization. The candidate should be prepared to lead multi-departmental teams in an effort to design and develop roaming solutions that have both technical and financial advantages.
A qualified candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:
Maintain device roaming requirements and test plans including CDMA, GSM, UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, LTE IMS, VoLTE roaming as well as VoWifi roaming to provide a seamless roaming experience with the global community of existing voice and data networks
Work with device and modem OEMs and test system vendors to develop and validate new requirements and test plans
Analyze roaming issues and drive swift resolution with network teams and device OEMs
Understand Telecommunication network technologies so that the proposed new device features/capabilities can be integrated into the existing network
Support interdepartmental team towards the design and development of new roaming services and solutions
Stay abreast of any other advanced technologies that may offer Telecommunication significant technical and/or financial benefits now or in the future
Ability to study relevant standards (3GPP, 3GPP2, Global Platform, GSMA, SIM Alliance, etc.) and specifications to guide cross-functional teams during creation of call flows or device and embedded SIM requirements and test plans
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree, B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent field preferred
Minimum of 7 years of telecommunications experience in mobile embedded systems and products is required
Wireless engineering experience or strong understanding of wireless infrastructure (3G and 4G) is a must
Excellent knowledge of LTE, IMS, and VoLTE
Development and debug experience on mobile phones with USIM, ISIM, CSIM support (i.e. QXDM, Wireshark, Move)
Good understanding of relevant 3GPP, 3GPP2, and GSMA standards
Excellent communication and advanced presentation skills including demonstrated experience with executive level customer presentations
Strong design skills and problem solving capabilities
Prior experience successfully leading technical deployment of new wireless products and services
Technical Product development experience
Financial analysis and budgeting experience
Strong project management skills to execute on roadmap, driving a project from inception to completion
The ability to work on a team and independently on multiple high priority projects
Ability to facilitate collaborative resolution of differences with a win-win approach
Proven organizational and interpersonal skills, plus proven relationship building abilities Roaming experience, Standards (3GPP, 3GPP2, etc.) strong knowledge, mobile device dev't and test
